DigiFarm receives the prestigious HPC Innovation Excellence Award

2024 HPC Innovation Excellence Award

DigiFarm, a Norwegian company revolutionizing global agriculture using LUMI’s resources, was awarded the 2024 HPC Innovation Excellence Awards. These prestigious awards were announced at the SC24 conference, given by the renowned HPC analyst group Hyperion Research and their HPC User Forum. The award is given to HPC users who have made remarkable achievements.

DigiFarm is transforming agricultural processes using HPC and AI: the company leverages the immense computing power of the LUMI supercomputer to process high-resolution satellite data which is used to train machine learning models to accurately detect field boundaries and sown areas based on vegetation and biomass. DigiFarm’s technology helps farmers, agricultural companies, and authorities optimize resource management, reducing costs by 10% while increasing crop yield and efficiency.

Since 2011, these semi-annual innovation excellence awards have been recognized globally as the touchstone for outstanding achievements that were supported using HPC. Only a few of the many nominations receive these awards. Judges for the awards, chartered with carefully reviewing each submitted nomination, are the members of the worldwide steering committee of the HPC User Forum, representing leading HPC user organizations in government, academia and industry. Award winners receive a $1,000 honorarium, an award certificate, and trophy recognizing their achievements.

Two major recognitions

DigiFarm was also awarded the Editors’ Choice: Best HPC Collaboration (Academia/Government/Industry) at the HPCwire Readers’ and Editors’ Choice Awards 2024.

These awards acknowledge DigiFarm’s innovative work in revolutionizing global agriculture using HPC and AI.

Nils Helset, CEO of DigiFarm, expresses gratitude for the two awards and acknowledges LUMI’s value for innovation and development:

– Working with LUMI has significantly accelerated our pace of innovation. LUMI contributes not only to our efforts to optimise land use in agriculture but also to driving more sustainable development across society.
