Overview

This interactive workshop is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction or refresher on the fundamental concepts of quantum computing, ensuring a solid foundation for participants to engage with the content of the Quantum Autumn School 2024.

Target Audience

This workshop is ideal for individuals who require a review of key quantum computing concepts, such as qubits, entanglement, interference, quantum gates, and variational quantum circuits, or those who are new to these topics. However, it is not intended for experienced professionals who have already worked with quantum computers.

Workshop Structure

The workshop will consist of two parts, with a break in between:

Time (CET) Topic
09:00-10:00 Quantum Computing 101 (Part 1)
Introduction to the fundamental concepts of quantum computing
10:00-10:20 Break
10:20-11:00 Quantum Algorithms (Part 2)
Exploration of quantum algorithms and their applications
11:00-12:00 Q&A and Preparation for the Quantum Autumn School
Opportunity to ask questions and prepare your notebook/dev environment for the upcoming autumn school

Participants can choose to attend only Part 2 if they feel that Part 1 is not relevant to their needs. This workshop is not a requirement to participate in the quantum autumn school, but helps you participate in the quantum autumn school even though you are not yet familiar with quantum computing.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Explain key concepts in quantum computing, including superposition, entanglement, and quantum gates (Part 1)
  • Experiment with quantum gates and predict their behavior (Part 1)
  • Run and understand textbook algorithms, such as Bernstein Vazirani and Grover (Part 2)
  • Explain the idea behind variational quantum circuits (Part 2)
  • Be well-prepared to participate in the Quantum Autumn School 2024 (Parts 1 and 2)

Course Materials

The workshop will utilize content from the IQM Academy – a free learning resource by IQM Quantum Computers.
